Adventure & Tips

Daytrips

El Acebuchal

1.15 hr drive - "the ghost village" - "el Pueblo Fantasma" is an exceptionally beautiful hamlet (abandoned in 1998) with a dramatic story. It is highly recommended to have lunch here. It lies between Frigiliana (a charming "White village") and Competa.

Frigiliana

0.50 hr drive - El Pueblo Blanco, a charming, picturesque, white village. Walking through the winding, picturesque alleys, you experience the real Andalusian atmosphere.

Malaga

0.50 hr drive - Malaga is a lively and cultural city. It is our favorite city. From art and culture to colorful harbor, it is a car-free city center and has many eateries! There is a lot to experience here. Start the day with a typical Spanish breakfast of 'churros' and people-watching. The artist Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga in 1881. A visit to the museum in honor of this world-famous artist should not be missed. We suggest ending a visit to Malaga ends with an aperitif and tapas in Antigua Casa de Guardia, the oldest traditional winery and tavern in the region.

Granada

1.45 hr drive - the Moorish fortress Alhambra, the Generalife, the Albaicin and of course the local tapas. In addition, during the winter months you can ski extensively in several places in the Sierra Nevada (about 2 hours away) . On the way to Granada we stop in Pampaneira. This is an authentic village in the Alpujarras. Here you can wander through the narrow alleys and streets, with the many stairs and impressive white houses. Here you will find a chocolate shop "Abuela ili" with a wide variety of flavored chocolates all so exquisite. A must try!

Nerja

0.45 hr drive - A vibrant village with beautiful beaches and the famous, atmospheric 'Balcon de Europe', a promenade on top of a cliff, with a magnificent view of the sea, the mountains and the coastline. On a clear day you can even catch a glimpse of Africa here. A visit to 'Cuevas de Nerja', the caves of Nerja, is definitely worth it. A few years ago, very old murals (43,000 years old!) were discovered here, the work of the Neanderthals.

Cordóba

2.00 hr drive - In the beautiful, and especially magical Cordóba, numerous historical treasures can be admired, such as Mezquita with the beautiful patios full of flowers, Juderia, the ruins of Medina Azahara, the capital of the Western Caliphate of Priego de Cordoba and the white villages. It is a short drive, but it is definitely worth the drive!

Caminito del Rey

1.30 hr drive - “The King’s Little Path”is a very spectacular walking path pinned along the steep walls through gorges and cliffs. If you do not have fear of heights, you should not miss this walk. It is one of the most beautiful walks in Spain. The shortest walking route takes about 3 hours. Put on sturdy shoes because it is a challenging walking tour. Order your tickets in advance on this website.

El Torcal de Antequera

1.15 hr drive - A fascinating natural park, with impressive rock formations, which are reminiscent of distant planets. Whimsically shaped rocks of many millions of years old in a nature reserve that will leave absolutely special memories. Again beautiful hiking trails of about 1.5 hours long. The chance to occasionally spot wild mountain goats is certainly present.

6 relaxing days at Finca Zayas

Tip 1 - Arrival day

Discover the 3 ha estate. Take a drink, choose a nice spot and enjoy the view of the La Viñuela reservoir and the hundreds of years old olive trees.

Tip 2 - Periana village

Visit the San Isidro Olive Cooperative Museum and taste the ecological extra virgin olive oil. In Lavadero de la Cruz, the washing center of the old town, the women of the village meet to wash and chat. For a spectacular panoramic view there is no better place than the Plaza de la Lomilleja. From the viewpoint you can see the Guaro river and see the La Viñuela dam. Here you walk along the route with the thousand year old olive trees. The route starts in the northeast of Periana, in the area of Alta Axarquía, on the way to Zafarraya and Río Seco.

Tip 3 - Tasting Spanish wine

Visit Bodega Bentomiz and taste the local Spanish wines. Experience the complete Spanish winery, enjoy a tour and have lunch on the Bodega. Bodega Bentomiz was founded by the Dutch couple Clara Verheij and André Both in the neighborhood of Sayalonga. Reservation is required.

Tip 4 - A day at the coast

Torre del Mar (20 min.) For a lazy and relaxing day on the wide sandy beach. Many bars, ice cream parlors and restaurants can be found along the beautiful long promenade. In Almayate is a nudist beach, located opposite the campsite Almanat.

TIP 5 - Los Cahorros del Rio Chillar

Hiking along the river .... take a packed lunch and go for a walk in the river. Tip: with a starting point from Nerja you can constantly walk in the water. You walk upstream, towards the source. It is a wonderful way to cool off on a hot summer day. This route is best suited for walking in June, July and August. At the weekend it can be crowded, the route is popular among the locals.

Tip 6 - Lite and easy

You can stroll through our 3 hectare estate. Enjoy the view of the reservoir from the shade of the old olive trees. Walk, if you feel like, to the reservoir La Viñuela. Or, rent a mountain bike and cycle around the reservoir. Doing nothing is also delicious! There are plenty of nice places to sunbathe or just to cool off in the shade. On request we reserve the manicure and / or pedicure. Relaxing with a snack & drink is the pampering moment is complete.
